Imagine the situation: your loved one is coming home from the hospital after an extended stay, and you find yourself overwhelmed by the thoughts of all the daily tasks that are suddenly almost impossible for your loved one to accomplish. Showering, climbing the stairs, even getting into the kitchen or bathroom can present tremendous challenges to your loved one being able to stay healthy, happy and safe in their own homes.
The cost of modifying a home to be accessible can be tremendous and the cost may seem a bit daunting. Luckily, there is help out there! The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission has a great and often underused Home Modification Loan Program. This state loan program provides loans to help make modifications to the homes of eligible elders, adults with disabilities and families with disabilities.
